Etymology of AGNOSIS
The word "agnostic" is derived from the ancient Greek word "agnostos", which means "unknown" or "unknowable". It is a combination of the prefix "a-" meaning "without" or "no" and "gnostos" meaning "known". The term was first coined by the British scientist and philosopher Thomas Henry Huxley in 1869 to describe his own position of neither affirming nor denying the existence of God or any higher power.
